The Stand Up Paddle (SUP) has become very popular in rio de Janeiro over the past 5 years. Today you can see dozens of people practicing this aquatic soprt, manly at Ipanema and Leblon beaches , but also at Barra da Tijuca and other places. Rio is the perferfct place for Stand up Paddling because there are a lot of Beaches, bays and small canals everywhere you go.
You can rent all the gear when you arrive , and also hire a private instructor. People with surfing experience are very welcome too.

If you are experinced, you can paddle all the way to Cagarra Islands , about 5 miles from Ipanema Beach. There are some schedule excursions to different spots on the coast of Rio.
